WHEN SHOULD I START?
Finding the perfect formal dress doesn’t have to be stressful — all it takes is a little planning. To help you feel calm, confident, and totally prepared for your big night, we’ve created the ultimate timeline to guide you through the dress shopping journey. Whether you're shopping for your Year 12 formal, prom, or another special event, follow this step-by-step guide to make the most of your experience!
STEP 1: 7 months before formal
Start browsing our website for inspiration. Think about the shape or silhouette you prefer such as Fitted, Simple, Mermaid, A-line or Ballgown styles.
Consider features such as Corset, Backless, Low Back, Lace-Up, Leg Split or No Leg Split.
What about necklines like, Strapless, Sweetheart, Cat-eye, Off Shoulder, One Shoulder, Halter neck, V-neck, High Neck and Cowl Necklines? You'll find you will gravitate towards necklines you generally wear in ordinary clothing as this is what you're most comfortable with but it's always exciting to try something new.
What kind of fabrics do you like? Do you like the look and feel of Satin or Velvet? Would you prefer something with more texture like Sequin, Beads, Lace, Glitter or Tulle
There's also colour and although we see most girls coming into our stores set on a very specific colour, we recommend you keep an open mind as finding the perfect style, most suitable for your body type and shape will look amazing in more than one colour. We have the most amazing colours to choose form such as Light Blue, Cobalt Blue, Navy, Burgundy and Wine, Emerald Green, Pink, Lilac, Red, Purple, Yellow, Sage, Gold and Rose Gold, Silver and of course your basic tones of Black and White Dresses.
STEP 2: 6 months before formal
It’s time to book your formal appointment and start trying on the dresses you’ve been eyeing! You might be surprised — many girls fall in love with a completely different style once they start trying things on.
Keep in mind that some of our designer gowns are available by pre-order only, and certain styles can take up to 6 months to arrive. That’s why it’s important not to delay this step — secure your dream dress early to avoid stress later!

STEP 3: 3 months before formal
While waiting for your dress to arrive, start shopping for your accessories - jewellery, clutch, strapless bra, shape wear, and shoes.
These details will complete your look and can even help you plan hair and makeup ideas.
Also, don't forget to book your hair and makeup stylists early — the best ones get snapped up quickly during formal season. If you're planning any beauty treatments (like tans, facials, or brow shaping), now's a good time to schedule those in as well.
STEP 4: 2 months before formal
Your dress has arrived — how exciting! Now it's time to make sure it fits you perfectly. We always recommend booking your alterations well in advance to avoid any last-minute stress. Even the most stunning gown may need a little tweaking to ensure it hugs you in all the right places.
If you're based in Brisbane or nearby, we offer professional in-store alterations with our experienced seamstresses. Whether it’s adjusting the length, taking in the waist, or securing the straps, we’ve got you covered.

If you're not local, don’t worry! You can take your dress to a trusted local tailor. Be sure to bring your shoes and undergarments with you to the fitting for the most accurate results.
STEP 5: 1 month before formal
With your dress now altered and ready, try it on one more time — just to make sure everything fits perfectly and feels comfortable. Walk around, sit down, and even practice a little dance move or two! This is your chance to make sure nothing needs adjusting before the big night.
It’s also a great time to test out your full look. Try on your dress with the shoes, accessories, and undergarments you’ll be wearing. This will help you feel confident and prepared, and give you peace of mind knowing everything works beautifully together.
